Local Women's Professional Group Has Raised Over $340K for WLP

In early 2009, insurance professionals Kathleen Smith, Amy Daley, and Kate MacDonald were connected to Women’s Lunch Place through our Mother’s Day Card campaign.

It was perfect timing––the three friends were in the midst of planning a social event to raise money for a Boston charity, but they had yet to select a beneficiary.

“We wanted to give back to our community while also forming a series of networking events for women in the insurance industry,” says Smith. “The idea was simply to create a local group of women uplifting other women in need.”

Having read about WLP’s mission on the back of one of our guest-designed cards, the three women scheduled a tour of the shelter. Impressed by what they observed, they quickly decided that Women’s Lunch Place would be the charity of choice for their upstart event.

Later that year, Kathleen, Amy, and Kate would become the inaugural members of W.I.N.E., which stands for Women in Insurance in New England. Their first event was a successful nine-hole golf tournament, and in the years since their tight-knit group has raised over $340,000 for Women’s Lunch Place.

W.I.N.E. holds two fundraisers each year––a Mother’s Day Card Campaign in the spring, and the now-classic golf outing in the fall. The latter event has sold out each year and even required an expansion to a second course to adjust for the increased demand.

One-off parties, including a packed trivia night held at the shelter, have brought to light the creative joy that characterizes W.I.N.E.’s notable string of successes.

Since their humble start, W.I.N.E. has amassed a committee of 16 professional insurance women and a distribution list of close to 800 women across New England. The group is made up of insurance agents, brokers, property and casualty companies, wholesalers, reinsurers, risk managers and other insurance and risk management-related partners.

Women’s Lunch Place is thrilled and exceedingly grateful to benefit from W.I.N.E.’s outstanding commitment to our cause, and we can’t wait to join them this October on the green.
