7 Days of Giving Warmth

As the holiday season approaches, so does brutally cold weather. This is an especially difficult time for our guests experiencing homelessness and poverty. During the seven days leading up to Giving Tuesday on December 3rd, help spread warmth to the approximately 250 women we serve each day, most of whom have experienced trauma, abuse, and loss.

Day 1: Warm Greetings

The Resource Center at Women’s Lunch Place is where our guests use email, telephones, and letter writing supplies to stay in touch with their loved ones throughout the year. Donate letter writing supplies and unused holiday cards for our guests to send warm greetings to their friends and family for the holidays.

Day 2: Warm Community

Women’s Lunch Place offers more than healthy meals, we also offer a warm community of women for support and friendship. Our guests sit together at tables with fresh flowers as meals are served restaurant style on china plates with flatware. Sponsor a meal at Women’s Lunch Place to foster warmth and support throughout the holiday season.

Day 3: Warm Outerwear

Boston’s most vulnerable women come each day for a healthy meal and a warm place out of the cold. Most don’t have coats and warm outerwear that will shield them from this harsh winter weather. Make an in-kind donation of warm outerwear to Women’s Lunch Place of new or clean, gently-used large size coats, hats and gloves.

Consider purchasing items while out Black Friday Shopping!

Day 4: Warm Wishes

Raising awareness of Women’s Lunch Place and our services brings more support and understanding from the community to the women we serve. Purchase WLP Winter Notecards to send warm wishes to friends and family, and each card will educate the recipient about WLP’s mission while 100% of the proceeds benefit our guests.

Day 5: Warm Shelter

For women experiencing homelessness and poverty, many need a quiet and warm place to rest while also gaining access to common necessities. Last year, women had 4,478 restful visits to the nap room at WLP and washed 5,804 loads of laundry. Help us provide these necessities daily by making an in-kind donation of emergency items like bras, underwear, socks and towels.

Day 6: Warm Feelings

We strive to restore a sense of dignity to our guests. Last year, women were able to take 5,782 showers and received toiletries daily. You can provide more warm feelings throughout this cold season by donating travel-size toiletries like toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, and conditioner.

Consider purchasing items on Amazon during Cyber Monday to ship them directly to the shelter.

Day 7: Warm Meals

Six days a week, women were served a hearty breakfast and lunch restaurant style by volunteers. Seasonal produce is used whenever possible and food purchases maximize nutritional benefits. Meals offer good food and hospitality, going beyond hunger relief, served in a community of friendship, respect, and care. Make a donation to Women’s Lunch Place to provide healthy meals to the women we serve.

Consider hosting a Facebook Fundraiser for Women’s Lunch Place on Giving Tuesday!
