WLP Receives $5k Grant from People’s United Community Foundation

We are pleased to announce that Women’s Lunch Place received a generous $5,000 grant from People’s United Community Foundation for our Healthy Meals Program! People’s United visited the shelter to deliver the check to us personally.

The Healthy Meals Program provides women experiencing homelessness or poverty healthy and hearty breakfasts and lunches six days a week. We offer a wide variety of food options with vegetarian alternatives available. Additionally, our menus are planned to emphasize nutritional content and diversity and food preferences are accommodated for our guests. Our goal is to provide women with comfort and care during their meals by serving their food on china plates with fresh flowers on the tables. The volunteers and staff at WLP treat every woman with dignity and respect in a trauma-informed model of care to minimize the trauma that can accompany food insecurity.

The People’s United Community Foundation strives to support services that care for individuals within low-income locations. They place emphasis on promoting better quality living, and investing in organizations that need recognition. We are grateful to have support from People’s United so we can continue to serve our beautiful ladies with the respect and dignity they deserve. Thank you People’s United for helping us provide comfort and care to homeless women.
