IN ADA'S WORDS:
“I’ve had to reinvent myself many times. I worked for an attorney for six years. I went to paralegal school. I want to be able to help people.
I’m in a wheelchair because of a domestic violence relationship, and that’s how I became homeless. My son, he was in eighth grade, going into high school. We did scattered housing, lived with another family. We lived in a hotel.
I’ve been having surgeries and fixing my health and trying to have the stability of my own home so my kids would never be homeless. I just keep fighting and fighting.
I have never let all these terrible things break my spirit. I refuse to let that happen. And it takes love and support and trust in order for me to do that.
That’s why I come to Women’s Lunch Place. This place is compassionate. I know who I can talk to.
I’m great at people reading, and that’s a survival skill. I grew up hanging out on the corner, you know? I can tell if they’re paying attention to me, if they’re really listening to me.
You always give me hope. Even when I don’t feel it, it’s there. I know it is.”
It is because of you that we can elevate the voices of our guests and help them achieve their goals.
Thank you for being a part of our community.
