Sarah
Sarah has been a regular guest of the Women's Lunch Place since August 2006. She is a very independent and resourceful woman, but unfortunately she suffers from brain damage which has severely impaired her short-term memory. Due to her inability to retain information about when to pay her bills and when her appointments were, Sarah was evicted from the room she was renting and was recently arrested on a default warrant when she missed her court appointments.
Throughout this process, Sarah was able to make progress with the help of the WLP advocacy department. Her advocate accompanied her to obtain her birth certificate, her T Pass from the MBTA, to various court appointments, and collaborate with social-service agencies on Sarah's behalf.
Additionally, her advocate was able to assist her in learning to write information down in order to help retain that information and all staff at WLP aided in reinforcing this.
Currently, Sarah is in a mental-health facility where she is receiving individual assistance to foster her independent living skills once she is discharged. The advocacy department continues to collaborate with the facility and with Sarah on her service plan.
