Kitchen Coordinator

Position Summary:

The Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the kitchen , ensuring nutritious, high-quality meals. This position reports to the Program Director.

General Responsibilities:

  • All staff of the WLP will uphold the established Mission Statement and Core Values of the WLP
  • All staff will attend meetings pertinent to their position at the WLP
  • All staff will work with other team members to support overall WLP operations including administrative, direct service and maintenance of the facility
  • All staff will maintain staff, volunteer, donor and guest confidentiality
  • All staff will participate in WLP community holiday celebrations and events and the Saturday direct service rotation

Direct Service:

  • Manage the WLP kitchen operations at least four days a week. Work week is Tuesday through Saturday.

Operations:

  • Open and ensure daily breakfast buffet is prepared and opened on time
  • Coordinate the prepare and cooking of lunch four days a week for 120 + people
  • Manage and motivate rotating volunteers to ensure meals are prepared and served on time.
  • Plan nutritious daily menus and communicate menus to staff, volunteers, and guests
  • Work with Nutrition, Diabetic, and Weight Management programs to ensure healthy meals for all
  • Procure and purchase all food as well as and cleaning supplies
  • Monitor purchases and maintain monthly food budget
  • On days not in the kitchen, ensure staff and volunteers have what they need to prepare and cook lunch
  • Solicit food donations and catering groups, in consultation with the Volunteer Manager
  • Monitor and participate in general upkeep and maintenance of the kitchen, pantry, equipment, and storage areas and report problems to the Program Director

Administrative:

  • Maintain certification as a Serve Safe Manager
  • Monitor help to ensure compliance with Serve Safe standards
  • Keep database updated with daily information such as food prepared, number of women served, volunteer hours, and in-kind food donations
  • Submit monthly data reports to the Program Director

Supervision:

  • Supervise Assistant position in his/her role in the organization
  • Provide written performance evaluations of all direct reports
  • Supervise volunteers and interns assigned working in the kitchen
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Program Director as needed

Celebrations:

  • Assist in menu planning, as appropriate, for Women's Lunch Place special events

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Commitment to working with homeless women and experience with diverse groups of people
  •  Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently 
  • Commitment to a team approach of working with staff, volunteers and guests
  • Experience in meal planning and preparation for 120+ guests 
  • Ability to coordinate and supervise volunteers
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience managing operations
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds and ability to stand for at least four consecutive hours
  • Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License
