Over $300,000 in Grants to WLP since 2010

Over the last decade, Liberty Mutual’s unwavering support has had an incredible impact on the ongoing work at Women’s Lunch Place. With over $300,000 in grants given since 2010, as well as continued employee engagement and volunteer services, we have been able to meet the unprecedented four-fold increase in food insecurity as well as a 59% increase in the need for women’s advocacy services.

As a result of Liberty Mutual’s partnership, we have hired more kitchen staff, established a new community food program, doubled food production, and continued to meet the demand for emergency guest assistance––both material and financial––without hesitation. This has allowed WLP advocates to provide housing and housing stabilization services, as well as assist with technology needs to keep guests connected to Telehealth and other vital services.

Liberty Mutual’s support, while grounding our resources, has also been transformative. Prior to COVID, our guests struggled against a variety of systemic and individual challenges, and our internal evaluation revealed capacity pressure in every program area. Thanks to Liberty Mutual, we are in a position to look forward and begin the process of a strategic plan in order to align our organization and respond to growing needs within our community. This partnership has made an indelible impact on our agency, our community, and those we serve.

“At Liberty Mutual, we believe in advancing security for people and communities. It is why our grants support nonprofit partners working to empower families and individuals who are struggling to thrive amid challenging situations.

Women’s Lunch Place meets these needs by offering a safe day sanctuary, nutritious meals, and critical support services for women experiencing homelessness or poverty. Through our partnership, we are able to support their holistic model of care for women in crisis.”

shared values, mutual goals

Our long-term partnership with Liberty Mutual includes a variety of creative and powerful programming, including:

Cookies and Careers: in-kind, volunteer-based services, in which Liberty Mutual employees mentor WLP guests on resume building, career searches, interview skills, and more. To read Liberty Mutual’s blog on the project, click here.

Board Involvement: throughout our partnership, WLP has benefitted from Liberty Mutual’s involvement on our Board and Advisory Committees.

Event Sponsorship: Liberty Mutual has sponsored events like our Spaghetti Dinner fundraising gala, which raises over $500K for WLP annually.

Foundation Giving: Liberty Mutual’s multi-year grant support includes over $300K to help stabilize WLP services through an ever-changing external environment.

Employee Support: Liberty Mutual employees have also invested in WLP throughout the decade-long partnership. Employee giving drives additional support through in-kind and matching donations, employee volunteering at the shelter has resulted in more than 475 hours of service, and other group volunteer activities support both WLP and Liberty Mutual’s shared values of supporting our most vulnerable neighbors.

Liberty Mutual’s giving is focused on three areas: homelessness, education, and accessibility. In 2020, they donated over $28 million to Massachusetts-based charitable organizations, the second-most of any company in the state.

As food and housing insecurity have increased to critical levels, we anticipate the dramatic increase in demand for our services to continue. The full impact of the pandemic on our population is just starting to be realized and will take years to unfold.
